Migration and Staff
The National Body can assist you in two ways regarding staffing shortages and immigration of bakers and pastry cooks.
1. Staffing
As Australia suffers a skills shortage, bakeries suffer with the inability to produce the range of products for their customers.
We have a bank of overseas workers that you may be interested in reviewing their resumes.
There are two visas you may wish to consider:
a. 457 visa - temporary visa (up to 4 years)
Employers can become a sponsor to an overseas employee, so long as the employee is trade qualified, has three years solid work experience and the employer agrees to pay a minimum of $47,480. There are a range of conditions to satisfy as an employer as well.
b. Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (permanent visa, minimum 2 years employment)
For those in a regional area that are finding it hard to find a baker, there is the regional scheme for employers outside metropolitan areas. The local certifying body reviews the employer's application to become a sponsor

2. Succession planning
If you are interested in selling your business or taking a different ownership path then a business migrant is a serious option.
Overseas buyers are interested in coming to Australia to buy a business under a 163 visa. Options such as outright sale, or the purchaser taking an ownership stake, are available.
If you are interested in either of these then please contact Anton Duc on 0412 421 786 or 1300 918 616.
"Baking Associations of Australia is also intimately involved in education of baker and their staff. Through our involvement with the TAFE and higher education system in Australia, and our education of bakers carried out by the state associations, education and learning is a major priority for the BAA in assisting the baking industry."
