Folate and Iodised Salt

In September of 2009 it was made mandatory to have or use Folate and Iodised salt in Bread products. In the coming weeks the BAA (BMIAA) will issue information flyers for bakeries on labelling and the correct regulation guidelines there will also be information cards for customers. This is being worked on in conjunction with the flour mills throughout Australia.  This will enable a smooth transition process.

Award Modernisation is Effective as of January 1st 2010

The Rudd Labour Govt has wasted no time in making changes to the workplace relations systems after the defeat of the Howard Liberal/National Govt.
Firstly the reforms end access to the Australian Workplace Agreements and secondly start the award modernisation process.

The Government has requested the Australian Industrial Relations Commission  create modern awards from the thousands of existing Federal and former State awards. The primary aim is to wipe away all the Federal and State awards and create a simple industry based award system that covers the whole of Australia.

A new award for bakers, pastry cooks and ancillary staff will be drafted in 2009 and apply from January 2010. Please contact your state association for further information.
