The Territory Baking Show 2012

The very first Northern Territory Baking Show has been hailed as a great success by everyone involved in the industry and a special thanks to our sponsors and the National Body BAA.

With just on 30 businesses entering for the very first time there was a variety of bread and cakes to keep judges busy during the day. See more on the events page

World Skills 2011

2011 WorldSkills NT Regional Breadmaking Competition was held on Thursday September 1st 2011 – Venue: CDU Palmerston Campus Bakery

The Territory’s best young skilled people were challenged to put their talents to the test against each other in the 2011 WorldSkills Northern Territory Regional Competition.

WorldSkills Australia trade and skill competitions aim to ensure that young people are equipped with the necessary expertise, which will enable them to work within the ever-changing global marketplace.  WorldSkills Australia competitions are an incredible display of hands on expertise, talent and determination, showcasing the many promising futures to be found in trades and technology.

The Northern Territory regional competition had some fantastic results through from the day with interstate judges commenting that it was one of the best overall standard competitions that they had been too for a regional competition.  All seven participants received a participation medal and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awarded. The winner will now begin training to compete at the National WorldSkills Australia Competition next year and represent the Northern Territory.

1st Place – Ellen Tresize (Bakers Delight Palmerston)

2nd Place – Jay Timney (Outback Bakery)

3rd Place – Cody Vos (Woolworths Pty. Ltd.)

Congratulations to all the winners and the participants for such a fantastic effort and doing their employers and the Northern Territory Proud. David Barker the head judge for the competition commented that the scores were very close and anyone of the competitors could have won. We were also assisted on the day by a panel of local and interstate judges including:

Stewart Latter (President of the BAA)

Paul Martin (State Sales Manager Weston Milling SA)

Ken Houghton (Brumby’s Parap)

The competitors were able to meet with interstate and local bakers with many years of experience in the trade and we believe this is important to their own personal growth in the industry and with their careers. We look forward to the competition becoming stronger in future years and these young bakers represent all of us on the national stage. All the best
